Copperas Cove Independent School District

CCISD has been named a "Recognized" School District by the Texas Education Agency for the first time in five years.  The Recognized District rating distinguishes CCISD as one of the best in the state of Texas and the largest Recognized School District in the Waco region of schools.  A “Recognized” school district rating means that throughout the district, at least 75 percent of all students passed all subject areas on the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS) state exam.  Less than two percent of school districts with enrollment over 7,000 students received this rating.

CCISD is located in a growing area of the state. Enrollment holds steady around 7,800 students. Currently, there are 10 campuses in the district.  Six are elementary schools, serving pre-kindergarten through fifth grades.  Two are junior high schools serving sixth, seventh and eighth grades. And rounding out the educational system are Copperas Cove High School and Crossroads High School, which both serve grades nine through twelve.

The CCISD curriculum starts with a pre-kindergarten program funded primarily by the State Center for Early Childhood and includes cutting-edge research based materials and assessments for three and four year old students. This program was most recently named a “School Ready” pre-kindergarten program by the State Center for Early Childhood. CCISD prides itself on being a data-driven district that focuses on adjusting instruction and professional development needs of teachers, based on recent data relative to student performance. To aide with this system of building teacher capacity, data monitoring and instructional modifications are Campus Instructional Coordinators (CICs) housed at each campus to specifically address these instructional needs on a full-time basis.

CCISD also has a focus on college and workforce readiness. This can be seen at the high school, which is full of innovative course offerings. CCHS currently offers dual credit classes in Veterinarian Science, Aviation, Automotive Tech, Food Service, Culinary Arts, Criminal Justice and several academic core college classes. CCHS has also implemented the Project Lead the Way pre-engineering courses, which include a high school Robotics Club for student competition. These dual credit courses highlight the partnership through Central Texas College. CCHS will launch a new high school redesign effort providing specific Institutes of Study for students looking for field related courses correlated with future employment opportunities.

Electives at CCHS include speech, debate, drama, art, business, journalism, foreign languages, technology courses, band, home economics, choir, teen involvement and junior ROTC. CCHS boasts successful participation in University Interscholastic League activities including band, athletics and choir.
